Jen Kunlire

kunlireSecond generation Jamaican and Nigerian, Jen Kunlire is a Calgary native spoken word poet. Her work has appeared on the CBC, she has written 6 chapbooks and was titled the People’s Poetry Festival Poet of honour in Calgary.

Hailing onto the Calgary poetry scene in 2008, she has performed on stages across Canada, featured in festivals and teaches spoken word workshops.

Past festivals include, 2-time member of the Calgary Slam Team competing in the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word– Calgary/08 & Victoria /09, a three time feature in the Calgary International Spoken Word FestivalHigh Performance Rodeo’s 10 Minute Play Festival (ETC),OFF-Fil festival in Montreal, winner of the 2009 CBC Poetry Face-OFF in Calgary, 100 Thousands Poets for Change in Toronto and recently placed 4th in the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Championships in Vancouver.

Past professional affiliations include, youth board member-at-large for the Writer’s Guild of Alberta, Calgary rep for Spoken Word Canada, former Communications Director for Ellipsis Tree Collective, and past chair for Ink Spot Collective.
