Whether writing or editing, Blossom Thom thrives when immersed in words. She is able to work on both sides of this cloth by understanding language and remembering its pleasure.

As an editor, Thom understands the rules of language. Her editing experience includes substantive, stylistic, and copy editing of academic manuscripts and stylistic and copy editing of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction manuscripts.

As a writer, she remembers the pleasure of language. Thom’s poetry has appeared in the Ampersand & la Perluète (2012), and online in BareBack Magazine (2012). A translation of one of her poems (translated by Dr. Martha Ruben) appeared in Generación Abierta. She has read her poetry during the Coloured Women’s Club Spring Tea (2009), the Leonard Cohen, You’re our Man fundraising gala (2009), Les Contes à Rendre Festival Palabra en el Mundo international poetry festival (2010, 2011), the Visual Arts Centre Poetry and Prose Reading (2011, 2012), and elsewhere. Thom presented her prose during the Lovers and Others reading (2012) and the Greene Writers Read event (2012).

Thom started life in Guyana. She immigrated with her family to Waterloo, Ontario, where she spent her childhood. Thom earned an Honours B.A. in Religious Studies from McMaster University (1991) before returning to Waterloo to work with developmentally delayed adults. Her heart led her to Montreal, Quebec, where she earned a Certificate in Journalism from Concordia University’s Centre for Continuing Education (1999). Montreal remains home for Thom where she writes, freelances as an editor, and works as an administrative assistant at one of the city’s universities.
